One of the best to ever suit up for the basketball Redmen was John Green, who earned a total of seven varsity letters in high school, but who really shined on the hardwood.
Green set several individual basketball records during his high school playing days before heading off to the University of Toledo for a successful college hoops campaign.
While with the Redmen, Green was named first team All-Northern Ohio League in basketball in 1979 and 1980. He was also named first team All-District Six during the same two seasons, was All-Ohio honorable mention in 1979, and was third team All-Ohio in 1980.
John held the Redmen scoring record from 1980-1998 and is currently second on the all-time scoring list with 1,236 points. He still holds the record for most points in one game with 51 vs. Tiffin Columbian in 1980 and also holds the record for most points in one season with 562, also in 1980.
His other records include single season free throw percentage (79% in 1980, 15th on the all-time list), single season assists (101 in 1980, 10th on the all-time list), single season rebounds (200 in 1980, 14th on the all-time list), and single season recoveries (68 in 1980, 11th on the all-time list).
After high school, John played and lettered four years for the Toledo Rockets and was co-captain during his senior season.
Green, who also earned two varsity letters in the sports of football and baseball, currently resides in Toledo.
