As a football star, Derrick earned Honorable Mention All-Northern Ohio League as a junior wide receiver. His team went 4-6 that season.
As a senior, Derrick helped the team to a 6-4 overall mark and was team Co-Captain and MVP. He was named All-NOL first team running back and led the league in rushing with 1,965 yards and 24 touchdowns. On the basketball court, Derrick’s team hovered around the .500 overall mark during his freshmen, sophomore and junior seasons. Derrick earned a varsity letter all three years.
As good as he was on the football field, Derrick was one of the best on the track. As a sophomore, he was All-NOL in three events – 100m dash, 4x100m relay, and 4x200m relay. He was a regional runner-up in the 100m and 4x100m relay and was All-Ohio (3rd Place) as part of the 4x100m relay team.
His junior season, Derrick was first team All-NOL in both the 100m dash and 4x100m relay once again. He was also the district and regional runner-up in the 100m dash, which qualified him to the State Meet.
His senior year, he was again a 3-event first team All-NOL performer in the 100m dash, 200m dash and the long jump. He was district runner-up in both the 100 and 200, and was regional champ in the 100 and third in the 200.
At the State Track Meet as a senior, Derrick finished fifth place in the 100m dash, earning All-Ohio status once again.
He was a 300-point member of the track team and was team MVP both his junior and senior seasons. He set the school record in the long jump at 22-feet and shares the school record in the 100m dash at 10.8 seconds. He is also part of the school-record holding 4x100 relay team at 42.94 seconds (Berberick, Keys, Koselke, Felder).
Today, Derrick lives in Bellevue and is employed at Norfolk Southern Railroad. He is married to Haley (Skiver), a 2010 Bellevue graduate, and they have a 4-year old daughter Milana.
