2016 Inductee Greg Keys, 2005
Greg Keys earned five varsity letters while at Bellevue H.S. He had two in football and three in track and field. It was in both sports that he left his mark for the red and white before graduating in 2005.
He was the featured running back both his junior and senior football seasons, with both the 2003 (9-2) and 2004 (10-2) teams winning Northern Ohio League titles. Over those two seasons, Greg had 463 carries for 3,137 yards (6.8 yards per carry) and had 13 catches for another 130 yards. He scored 37 touchdowns and 11 two-point conversions and led the team in scoring both seasons. He was named MVP during the senior campaign and was also first team All-NOL, All-Northwest Ohio (player of the year), and All-Ohio.
In track and field, Greg re-wrote the local history book. At the time of graduation, he was the Bellevue High School record holder in the 110 hurdles, 300 hurdles, 4 X 100 relay, and 4 X 200 relay. He had the second-fastest 100 and 200 meter dash times in school history, set the stadium record in the 110 hurdles, and set both the Oak Harbor and Northern Ohio League marks in the 110 hurdles.
He was a two-time NOL champ, District champ, and Regional champ (2004 and 2005) and qualified to the State Meet in 10 events over three years, placing eight out of those 10 times. In 2003, he was second in the 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles, and sixth as part of the 4 X 100 relay team.
In 2004, Greg was second in the 110 hurdles, third in the 300 hurdles, and sixth as part of the 4 X 200 relay team. Then, during his senior season, Greg was crowed State Champion in the 110 hurdles and helped the 4 X 100 relay team finish third.
He was team MVP both his junior and senior seasons, led the team in points both years, and was team captain in 2005. He helped the Redmen win their first NOL track and field title in 32 years.
After high school, Greg continued his athletic career at Kent State University, earning three letters in football and four in track and field. He was All-Mid American Conference second place in the 60m hurdles in 2006, was fourth in that event in 2007, and third in 2009. He still has the sixth-best time in school history in the 60m hurdle event.
Today, Greg resides in Ypsilanti, Michigan, and is employed by Verizon as a Business Account Manager. He also is a football and strength conditioning coach at Ann Arbor Huron High School. Greg is married to Kristie Keys. Greg has two children, Jayla (12) and Stryker (1)
