2016 Inductee Ashley (Hill) Tyler, 2003
Ashley (Hill) Tyler was one of the most versatile volleyball and basketball players to graduate from Bellevue High School, earning seven varsity letters and being named the top female athlete before graduating in 2003. She earned four letters in volleyball and three in basketball for the Lady Red.
She was named second team All-Northern Ohio League in basketball as a junior and was also honorable mention All-Northwest District. The following season, she was first team in both the NOL and District, was first team All-Ohio, and was named Player of the Year by both the District 6 Coaches Association and the Northwest District. She helped lead the team to a 21-3 overall record her senior season and to the NOL, Sectional, and District titles. She was a co-captain and team MVP both junior and senior seasons.
Overall during her senior year, she scored 455 points (19 ppg), had 108 assists, 75 steals, and hit 82.1 percent of her free throws. She ended her career sixth on the all-time scoring list and fifth on the assist list.
In the sport of volleyball, Ashley was honorable mention All-NOL her freshman season, was second team All-NOL as both a sophomore and junior, and was first team as a senior. The District 6 Coaches voted her third team as a junior and first team as a senior, and she was both co-captain and team MVP her junior and senior seasons.
Ashley was named as the Bellevue Gazette Award Winner as the most valuable female athlete in 2002.
Ashley then went on to earn four varsity letters in volleyball, two years at Owens Community College and two years at the University of North Alabama.
For Owens College, Ashley was first team all-league and first team All-Region 12 as a freshman. Her team finished fifth overall nationally that season. The following season she was first team all-league, player of the year, first team Region 12, and first team All-America. She was also team captain and MVP. After the 2004 season, Ashley held several Owens College records, including 52 digs in one game, 1,006 digs in one season, 1,738 digs in two seasons, and 296 games played.
She transferred to North Alabama and started in both the 2005 and 2006 seasons, and she was team captain in 2006. She was named defensive player of the week five weeks in a row and had 43 digs in one game and 1,073 digs in 218 career games. She helped lead North Alabama to the Division II National Runner-Up trophy.
Today, Ashley resides in her hometown of Bellevue and is employed by the Bellevue Recreation Center. She is married to Sean and they have three children, Paxton (2), Oakley (1), and Hudson (2 months).
