Consistency was the name of the game for BSHS grad Brad Schubert, who excelled in three sports for the red and white, earning two letters each in football, basketball, and baseball.
With his induction, Brad completes a Hall of Fame trifecta after his father (Sam) and brother (Brian) was previously inducted in the Redmen Athletic Hall of Fame.
Brad lettered in football during the 1986 and 1987 campaigns. During his senior year, the Redmen won a regional playoff game for the first time in school history by defeating Garfield Heights Trinity 24-21. Brad was named first team All-NOL at tight end that season and scored 75 points that year, second on the team behind teammate Ed Haynes. He had 22 catches for 520 yards (23.6 yards per catch) and scored nine touchdowns. He was also named second team All-NOL punter and first team All-Ohio punter as a senior.
In basketball, Brad earned two more letters. As a junior, he scored 318 points and led the Redmen to a sectional title and district runner-up finish. As a senior, the team again won sectionals and again finished district runner-up. He was named team MVP, was first team All-NOL, first team All-District, and third team All-Ohio.
In baseball, Brad earned two letters and was second team All-NOL his junior season. During the 1988 season, Brad was first team All-NOL and led the team to the sectional championship with a 16-8 overall record.
Brad continued his athletic achievements at Rio Grande College where he played four seasons and earned four basketball letters. He was honorable mention Mid-Ohio Conference his sophomore year, was Academic NAIA All-America as a junior, and was captain during his junior and senior seasons. He was team MVP during the 1991-92 season, was first team All-District and second team All-League that same season. He scored a career total of 1,974 points at Rio Grande, was 446-1,058 for 42% career 3-point attempts, and was 208-256 from the free throw line.
