2013 Inductee Jennifer (Windau) Kunka, 1990
Jennifer Windau Kunka was a two-sport athlete for the Bellevue Lady Red, earning a total of seven varsity letters in volleyball (4) and basketball (3). Jen graduated in 1990 from Bellevue High School.
In basketball, Jen scored 471 career points which was sixth all-time when she graduated. She also had 133 career assists (10th all-time) and 423 career rebounds (10th all-time) while earning her three letters.
Jennifer’s “bread and butter” sport was definitely volleyball. She was only the second person in school history to letter four years in volleyball.
As a sophomore in 1987 she earned Second Team All-Northern Ohio League honors. The following season, she was First Team All-NOL, Second Team All-District Six, and Honorable Mention All-Ohio.
During the 1989 season, Jen was co-captain and co-MVP, First Team All-NOL, First Team All-District Six, and Honorable Mention All-Ohio. She had 700 career kills, 370 digs, was 94.8 % serving and 82.9 % hitting. She also helped to lead the Lady Red to back-to-back Regional runner-up performances.
Jen then took her volleyball skills to Youngstown State University on an athletic scholarship. She earned four varsity letters and in 1993 was team captain and MVP and was also named a YSU Scholar Athlete. She completed her college career with 799 kills and 1,167 digs. Her senior year, Jen was 12th in the nation with 4.21 digs per game.
She was named Mid-Continent Conference Player of the Week once and was Honorable Mention five times in a row her senior year. She led the team in kills (334) her senior year and currently holds the school record for most digs in a three-game match (28) vs. Milwaukee in 1992. She is also currently second all-time with 446 digs in one season and third all-time with 4.21 digs per game average. She is eighth all-time in career digs and is one of only eight players to ever record 20 kills and 20 digs in the same match.
Today, Jen works in the Brecksville Broadview Heights School System. Jen is married to Len Kunka and they have two sons. They reside in Broadview Heights, Ohio.
