Bryan Kegerreis earned a total of five letters during his high school career, lettering in baseball as a freshman and track and field as a sophomore. Thankfully he gave up both of those sports and concentrated on his “bread and butter sport” of basketball, because he proceeded to rewrite the record book and give spectators, teammates and coaches many thrills on the hardwood.
A graduate of the Class of 1983, Bryan lettered three years in hoops, became only the second player in Bellevue High School history to break 1,000 career points, and went on to a college career at Indiana State University and Heidelberg College.
During his sophomore season Bryan averaged seven points per game, coming off the bench to play in all 21 games for the runner-up Northern Ohio League team. He scored in double-digits in nine of those games.
Bryan came into his own during the following season, an MVP season on a team that finished 15-7 overall. He was named First Team All League and Second Team All District. He averaged 19.4 points per game, scoring a total of 426 points.
The following year, Bryan was once again MVP for the Redmen and was captain for the Northern Ohio League champions (13-1). Overall, the team finished 20-3 which at the time was the second-best overall mark since the State Champion Whiz Kids in 1945.
Bryan was named First Team All League, was Northwest District Player of the Year, District Six Coaches Player of the Year, and was Third Team All Ohio. He averaged 21.5 points per game that senior season and had a field goal percentage of 60%. He is still fourth on the all-time Redmen scoring list with 1,067 career points.
He wrapped up his high school career by playing in the A-AA All State Game where he scored eight points and grabbed six rebounds for the winning team.
Then it was off to Indiana State on a basketball scholarship. He played and started for three years at ISU before transferring to Heidelberg College in 1987 where he scored 445 points during his final season of eligibility. He shot 44% from 3-point range and 88.6% from the free throw line. He earned Honorable Mention All Ohio Athletic Conference, led his team in scoring, and led them to a Top 10 ranking in the country.
Bryan and his wife, Tracy, reside in Nokomis, FL where Bryan is owner of K&K Custom Finish Carpentry.
