2021 Big Red Service Award
The Bellevue Elks #1013
The Bellevue Elks #1013
The “Big Red” Service Award is being presented for the 16th consecutive year after being established by the Hall of Fame Committee in 2005. The Award was established to honor a person, group, organization, or business that has gone beyond the call of duty to assist the Bellevue Redmen Athletic Department, Coaches, and/or the Bellevue Redmen Athletic Booster Club.
This year the Hall of Fame Committee is proud to recognize the Bellevue Elks Lodge 1013 as the 2021 “Big Red” Service Award recipient. Their willingness to sponsor the Annual Bellevue Elks Track Invitational over the last 49 years is a testament to their community and school partnership.
The Bellevue Track Invitational was established in 1971 by then Head Boys Track Coach Jim Whittengton. The Bellevue Elks were involved from the start as its chief sponsor. The partnership has lasted to this day and has involved so many people to keep this great partnership going. From the many Bellevue Elks leaders and members, to the athletic directors and track coaches at Bellevue High School. Over the 49 year history of the Bellevue Invitational, it is estimated that the Bellevue Elks has donated around $35,000-$40,000 to sponsor the awards and cover other expenses associated with the invite. Members of the Elks also have assisted with the invite in a variety of ways over the many years (officials, timers, concession stand help, etc…). With that said, thousands of track athletes from Bellevue High School and other competing area schools have benefited. What a nice legacy!
The Bellevue Elks Lodge 1013, which has been in Bellevue for 107 years, has also been active in many other very meaningful ways in our school system & community. The following are just a few examples of their community & school dedication of recognizing and supporting the kids of Bellevue.
As you can see the Bellevue Elks Lodge 1013 has made an impact not only with the Bellevue Athletic Department and Bellevue High School, but also within the Bellevue Community. We say thank you tonight for their outstanding efforts to serve and support our Bellevue athletes, coaches, students, and youth. The Bellevue Elks Lodge 1013 has been a valuable member of the Redmen Team! Thank you!!

- Awarded hundreds of thousands of dollars in scholarships to graduating seniors at Bellevue High School over the past many decades.
- Forty years of sponsoring & running the Hoop Shoot Free Throw contest for Bellevue youth. This local annual event gives kids the chance to advance to the District, State, U.S. Regional, and National levels of the contest. Bellevue had a National Runner-up in Leslie King in 1999.
