2023 Big Red Service Award
The Bellevue Hospital
The Bellevue Hospital
The “Big Red” Service Award is being presented for the 17th consecutive year after being established by the Hall of Fame Committee in 2005. The Award was established to honor a person, group, organization or business that has gone beyond the call of duty to assist the Bellevue Redmen Athletic Department, coaches and/or the Bellevue Redmen Athletic Booster Club.
This year the Hall of Fame Committee is proud to recognize The Bellevue Hospital as the 2023 “Big Red” Service Award recipient. The hospital has been a long-time supporter of Bellevue City Schools and the Redmen Athletic programs. The hospital’s continued involvement is a testament to their goal of providing Quality Care, Close to Home for our community and students.
For over 15 years, The Bellevue Hospital has played an integral role for the Redmen and Lady Red by providing a staff member from their rehabilitation services department to serve as our school district’s athletic trainer. Whether on the field or on the court, the athletic trainer acts as our “eyes and ears” when it comes to keeping our athletes safe and healthy. The goal is always to prevent injuries from happening, but sports and physical activity can be unpredictable. When injuries do happen, we depend on the athletic trainer to help examine, diagnose, treat and rehabilitate the emergent or chronic injuries of our athletes. We continue to thank The Bellevue Hospital for providing one of the ‘most valuable players’ to be part of our team.
The Bellevue Hospital has also positively impacted Bellevue athletics by offering free sports physicals to students. Thanks to a collaboration of hospital physicians, nurses and rehabilitation services staff, students entering grades 8 – 12 can receive their athletic physicals at no-cost during the high school’s Free Physical Night offered annually.
Over the last several years, The Bellevue Hospital Foundation has helped place many Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) at the Bellevue High School and throughout the other facilities and athletic fields within the school district. The addition of these AED devices helps ensure the schools can adequately meet the needs of the students, teachers and community members if an emergency arises. The Bellevue Hospital has also provided nursing staff to train teachers and Bellevue High School health class students how to properly use the devices, along with other lifesaving skills including hands-only CPR.
Providing local support has always been a top priority for The Bellevue Hospital, and they demonstrate that through several athletic sponsorships annually. Whether it is print sponsorships in the athletic programs, sign sponsorships displayed at the athletic fields or equipment sponsorships for improved gear, The Bellevue Hospital is present during the fall, winter and spring sports seasons.
The Bellevue Hospital Foundation also sponsors the MVP Awards for the top female and male athletes at Bellevue High School. Formerly known as the Gazette Awards, the trophies and recognitions have been sponsored and presented by the Foundation since 2017.
The Bellevue Hospital, which has been in Bellevue for 106 years, has also been active in many other meaningful ways in our school system. The following are just a few examples of their community and school dedication, supporting the children of Bellevue.
The Bellevue Hospital has made an impact not only on the Bellevue Athletic Department and Bellevue High School, but also within the Bellevue Community. We say thank you tonight for their outstanding efforts to serve and support our Bellevue athletes, coaches, students and youth. The Bellevue Hospital has been a valuable member of the Redmen Team! Thank you!

The Bellevue Hospital, which has been in Bellevue for 106 years, has also been active in many other meaningful ways in our school system. The following are just a few examples of their community and school dedication, supporting the children of Bellevue.
- In January 2019, the hospital partnered with Bellevue City Schools to help support students in need with the creation of Hygiene Closets. Hygiene Closets are now located in Bellevue Elementary School, Bellevue Middle School and Bellevue High School. The goal of the closets is to make it easier for children to obtain basic hygiene necessities they may not be receiving at home. The closets stock items such as socks, soap, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo and other items that teachers and guidance counselors discretely distribute to students who need them.
- The Bellevue Hospital’s Community Services Department presents “Healthy Kids, Healthy You” programs to Bellevue kindergartners several times throughout the year to teach children the importance of nutrition and living an active lifestyle.
- On many occasions, The Bellevue Hospital has hosted tours and career exploration programs for students, teachers and guidance counselors across the district to provide a way to learn about possible career paths for the future, whether students are interested in pursuing a college degree or interested in entering the workforce directly after high school.
- For 22 consecutive years, The Bellevue Hospital has awarded 10, $1,500 scholarships to the children of hospital employees, many whom have been Bellevue students. In 2019, the hospital presented a four-year college scholarship to a graduating Bellevue senior as part of a millennium celebration that was initially started to recognize babies born at the hospital in 2000. These scholarships continue to be an example of The Bellevue Hospital’s investment in the future of our local youth.
