Suzi Behm proved to be
one of the most versatile female athletes to ever wear the
red and white at Bellevue Senior High School. That is
because she earned 10 varsity letters in the sports of
volleyball (3), basketball (3), and track and field (4).
A 1990 graduate of
BSHS, Suzi excelled in track and field and eventually earned
a track scholarship to Youngstown State University.
In the sport of
volleyball, Suzi was a member of the sectional championship
team and district runner-up team in 1987. As a junior, Behm
helped lead the Lady Redmen to a Northern Ohio League title,
sectional championship, district championship, and regional
runner-up title. As a senior, she helped the team duplicate
those sectional, district, and regional honors.
As a basketball
player, Suzi earned three letters, helped her team to the
sectional title in 1988-89, and was a co-captain during her
senior campaign.
Her bread-and-butter
sport was track and field, where Suzi earned four varsity
letters for Coach Earl Miller. As a freshman, she was
Northern Ohio League runner-up in the shot put.
As a sophomore, she
won both the Bellevue Invitational and NOL titles in the
shot put, placed second in the shot at the Tiffin Bill
Krause Relays, and was third at districts. In addition, she
was first in the discus at the Krause Relays, second at the
Huron Invite, and second at districts.
Her junior season,
Suzi set a new shot put school record at 37-feet, 3
½-inches, finished first at the Huron and Bellevue Invites,
was second at the NOL and district, was third at regionals,
and finished 10th overall at the State Meet.
She was co-captain her
senior season, was MVP, and scored 192 points for her team.
In discus, she was first at the Bellevue Invite and NOL
Meet, was second at the Huron Invite and at district, and
set a new school record at 122-feet, 11-inches with her toss
at the State Meet, where she placed fifth overall. In the
shot put event, she was first at the Bellevue Invite, NOL,
district, and regional, and placed fifth overall at the
State Meet. She set a new NOL record that season at 37-feet,
3 ½-inches, and set a new school record and district record
at 38-feet, 1-inch. Then, at the regional meet, she bettered
that mark by throwing 38-feet, 3 ¼-inches, a record that
still stands today.
Also while at BSHS,
Suzi was a representative to the American Legion Girls
State, and was a member of the National Honor Society.
At Youngstown State,
Suzi was a four-year letter winner in track, was co-captain
in 1994 and 1995, and Indoor Season MVP in 1995, and upon
her graduation, held the YSU school records for the indoor
shot put (42-feet, 11-inches) and indoor weight throw
(41-feet, 6-inches).
Suzi has been employed
by Macy's Department Stores for 13 years and is currently
the loss prevention manager at the Macy's in University
Heights, OH. She resides in Strongsville where she is a
member of the Strongsville Community Band, and is also a
member of Zion United Church of Christ, Fireside.. |
